Car Rig in Stuttgart: Driving Shots with the Tilta Hydra Alien Arm
With the Tilta Hydra Alien Arm as a car mount, driving shots are captured right on the vehicle – stable, close and at speed. In Stuttgart, VR-Copter filmed the setup on the road, complemented by aerials with Inspire 2 and Zenmuse X7 in 6K.
Project details
- Location: Stuttgart, Germany
- Project: Driving shots with car mount (Tilta Hydra Alien Arm)
- Client / production: VR-Copter in-house production
- Services: Car rig driving shots and drone in 6K
- Shoot date: 2022
Brief and execution
A car mount takes the camera where no drone can go: just above the tarmac, right next to the wheel or in front of the bumper. The Hydra Alien Arm is fixed to the vehicle with suction mounts and keeps the camera steady while driving.
Combined with the drone, this creates a complete automotive look: the detail on the car from the rig, the road and the landscape from above.
Equipment and permits
Tilta Hydra Alien Arm (car mount), DJI Inspire 2 with Zenmuse X7 in 6K.
Pilot and camera: Jochen Riehm. Driving shots on public roads only with safety measures and the required permits; for rig runs we recommend closed roads.

The rig delivers details on the car, car-to-car the classic tracking shot from a camera car, the drone the overview. In many automotive productions we combine all three.
What does a shoot day with car rig and drone cost?
A shoot day with a drone crew starts at €1,300 net, with Inspire 3 and cinema setup from €2,400 net, and as a combined drone, FPV and car-to-car package from €3,900 net – each including pilot, equipment, insurance and permit coordination.
