Drone Hockenheimring: aerials, FPV and car-to-car at the track
VR-Copter flies at the Hockenheimring for car manufacturers, agencies and production companies: aerials with a cinema drone, FPV close to the car and car-to-car tracking shots – all from one team. We know how the track works: approval from the circuit operator, drone windows in the media schedule and coordination with race control and instructors.
Drone filming at the Hockenheimring: what we do there
- Aerials with a cinema drone (DJI Inspire 3) for commercials, event films and photos – overview of the track, paddock and Porsche Experience Center.
- FPV drone for dynamic chase shots close to the car, through corners and the pit lane – more on FPV.
- Car-to-car with a gimbal rig from the camera car – the tracking shots a drone cannot deliver at race speed (more at jrjr.film).
- All from one source: pilot, equipment, insurance and permits. One contact instead of three suppliers.

Permits and workflow at the Hockenheimring
A drone shoot at the track needs three things: approval from the circuit operator (Hockenheim-Ring GmbH) for the specific area, proof of insurance and the right authorisation for the operating category. VR-Copter holds a general authorisation from the Regional Council of Stuttgart for UAS geographical zones in Baden-Württemberg and coordinates everything else before the shoot.
On the shoot day we fly in fixed drone windows according to the media schedule, coordinated with race control and instructors. While cars are on track, the team switches to the camera car between windows. That way aerials and tracking shots are filmed on the same day without disrupting the event.
Prices for a drone shoot at the Hockenheimring
