Luftaufnahmen Drohne Drone Aerials Nürburgring

Drone Nürburgring: aerials, FPV and car-to-car at the Ring

Since 2015 VR-Copter has been flying at the Nürburgring for car manufacturers, event agencies and production companies – from event coverage of the Mercedes-Benz Driving Experience and one of the first FPV uses in automotive film to FPV productions with a spotter. We know how the Ring works: operator approval, agreed take-off points and consideration for the rescue helicopter.

Drone filming at the Nürburgring: what we do there

  • Aerials with a cinema drone (DJI Inspire 3) for commercials, event films and photos – track, paddock and vehicles in motion.
  • FPV drone with spotter for chase shots close to the car – more on FPV.
  • Car-to-car from the camera car for the tracking shots (more at jrjr.film).
  • All from one source: pilot, equipment, insurance, project management and permits.

Permits and workflow at the Nürburgring

A drone shoot at the Ring needs approval from the circuit operator for the specific take-off points, proof of insurance and the right authorisation for the operating category under the EU drone regulation. Coordination with air rescue is especially important: a rescue helicopter is stationed at the Nürburgring and always has priority on certain sections.

On the shoot day we fly in fixed windows, coordinated with race control and production. FPV always flies with a spotter. Between windows the team switches to the camera car if needed.

Prices for a drone shoot at the Nürburgring

FAQ

Can you film with a drone at the Nürburgring?

Yes, with approval from the circuit operator (Nürburgring 1927 GmbH & Co. KG), insurance and the right official authorisation. Because of the rescue helicopter at the Ring, precise coordination of take-off points is mandatory – VR-Copter takes care of it.

Is FPV possible at the Nürburgring?

Yes. We fly FPV drones with a spotter, in agreed windows and on approved sections. That is how chase shots very close to the vehicle are made.

What does a drone operator at the Nürburgring cost?

From €1,300 net per shoot day with a drone team, from €2,400 net with Inspire 3 and cinema setup, from €3,900 net as a combination of drone, FPV and car-to-car – including pilot, equipment, insurance and permit coordination. Travel costs as incurred.

Does VR-Copter also fly on the Nordschleife?

That depends on the event and the operator’s approval. We clarify in advance which sections and take-off points can be approved.

Does VR-Copter also deliver car-to-car footage?

Yes. Drone, FPV and car-to-car come from the same team, coordinated on the same schedule.
