Drone Filming in Arjeplog: AMG Experience on Ice in Swedish Lapland
For the AMG Experience on Ice in Arjeplog, Swedish Lapland, VR-Copter delivered the aerial footage – wide shots across the frozen lakes and chase flights right alongside drifting Mercedes-AMG cars. The film was produced with Oh Boy Films; the car-to-car tracking shots came from the same crew.

Brief and execution
Arjeplog is one of the most important winter testing and training locations in the car industry. At the AMG Experience on Ice, customers drive on prepared ice tracks across frozen lakes – controlled, but with plenty of vehicle dynamics. The brief was to show both: the vastness of the landscape and the closeness to the car mid-drift.
The drone covered the wide shots and the chase flights at eye level with the car, while the car-to-car rig captured the dynamic tracking shots from the camera car. Because both units came from one crew, lines, distances and timing on the ice were agreed in advance – on ice a matter of safety, not just framing. The real challenge was the cold: at Arctic temperatures drone batteries lose power fast. The batteries were pre-heated in the vehicle, kept warm between flights and swapped in short cycles, so every drone was ready the moment the car went into the drift.
Equipment and permits
On set: DJI Inspire 3 for cinema wide shots and chase flights, DJI Mavic 3 Pro Cine as a second, fast aerial camera, DJI Avata 2 for FPV flights close to the car, and a car-to-car rig with gimbal for the tracking shots (more on car-to-car at jrjr.film). In Arctic conditions flight time per battery drops significantly, so extra batteries are planned into the schedule.
Sweden applies the EU drone regulation; an operator registration from Germany is valid across the EU. Local flight zones of the Swedish aviation authority and the track operator’s consent also need to be cleared. (Legal status: November 2026)
FAQ
Can you fly a drone for a commercial shoot in Sweden?
Yes. The EU drone regulation applies, and a registration from any EU country is valid. We check restricted zones and the site operator’s consent before the shoot – VR-Copter handles the coordination.
Do drones work in Arctic cold?
Yes, with preparation: pre-heated batteries, warm storage between flights and more batteries than usual, because flight time drops in the cold.
How much does a drone operator cost for a shoot in Lapland?
A shoot day with a drone crew starts at €1,490 net, with Inspire 3 and cinema setup from €2,490 net, and as a combined drone, FPV and car-to-car package from €3,900 net – each including pilot, equipment, insurance and permit coordination. Travel days and additional drones are charged as required.
