Drone Silvretta: Mercedes-Benz V-Class 2019

For the trailer of the Mercedes-Benz V-Class 2019, VR-Copter flew the aerials in the Silvretta in Montafon (Vorarlberg, Austria) – high mountains, reservoirs and hairpins between Lake Constance and Innsbruck. Shot in October 2018 for the production company schwäble + wolf with Inspire 2 and Zenmuse X5S in 4K.

Brief and execution

The updated V-Class had to show that a large MPV looks confident in the high mountains too. The drone places the car in the vastness of the Silvretta: mountain flanks, water and bends in which the V-Class looks almost small from above – and all the more elegant for it.

In October, light and weather change fast in the Alps. That is why we plan flight windows closely with the driving team: car, position and camera move are agreed before the sun comes over the ridge.

Can you film with a drone in Austria?

Yes, with a registered drone, insurance and the right EU category. Restrictions apply in protected areas, over roads with traffic and near cable cars. VR-Copter clarifies permits and landowner questions in advance.

How do you plan driving shots with a drone in the mountains?

With a location scout, a weather window and clear radio communication. Bends, reservoirs and viewpoints are fixed beforehand so every run works and the car does not have to turn more often than needed.

What does a drone shoot for a vehicle trailer cost?

A shoot day with a drone crew starts at €1,300 net, with Inspire 3 and cinema setup from €2,400 net, and as a combined drone, FPV and car-to-car package from €3,900 net – each including pilot, equipment, insurance and permit coordination.
