Book an FPV Pilot for Automotive, Commercials and Events

Looking for an FPV pilot who can safely chase a moving car, fly through halls and work alongside director and drivers on set? At VR-Copter you book the FPV pilot with the right FPV drone, insurance and permit coordination from one team – across Germany and Europe.

We have flown FPV in automotive productions since 2016: on race tracks, on ice in Scandinavia, in museums and factory halls. Send us a request and you get a flight idea and quote the same day.

What you get when you book an FPV pilot

  • FPV pilot with automotive experience: Jochen Riehm flies FPV chases, fly-throughs and one-takes and agrees lines with drivers and director beforehand.
  • Spotter: keeps an eye on airspace and surroundings while the pilot flies with goggles – from our team for racing FPV and cinelifter, from your crew after a short briefing for the DJI Avata 2.
  • The right FPV drone: DJI Avata 2 for indoor, people nearby and social media; FPV racing drone (iFlight Nazgul Evoque F5) with GoPro for fast outdoor chases; iFlight Taurus X8 cinelifter with RED Komodo 6K RAW for commercials and cinema (very limited availability).
  • Power and radio on set: enough batteries, power stations for charging on location and radios for coordination with drivers and director.
  • Insurance and permits: liability insurance for commercial drone operations, coordination with track operator, venue owner or authority.
  • Data handover: raw files on the shoot day, directly to DIT or editor on request.

Shoots you book an FPV pilot for

  • Automotive and driving shots: chases close to the car, drifts, race track, press drive events – combined with drone and car-to-car on request.
  • Commercials and corporate film: flowing camera moves that crane or gimbal can’t do.
  • Indoor: museums, plants, showrooms and halls in one take – more on indoor drones.
  • Events: driving events, trade fairs and shows – drone for events.
  • Film and TV: series, documentary and feature film – drone pilot for film and TV.

How booking works

  1. Request: subject, location, date and format by phone or email.
  2. Flight idea and quote: the same day, with a proposal for drone and lines.
  3. Preparation: permits, location check, briefing with drivers and track management.
  4. Shoot day: safety briefing, test flight, shooting with spotter and radio.
  5. Handover: raw files on set, best takes selected on request.

FAQ on booking

How much does it cost to book an FPV pilot?

A shoot day with FPV pilot and DJI Avata 2 starts at €1,400 net, with FPV racing drone and spotter from €2,700 net, with cinelifter and RED Komodo from €4,500 net, and as a combined drone, FPV and car-to-car package from €3,900 net – each including pilot, equipment, insurance and permit coordination. The day rate covers 9 + 1 hours; travel is charged at €0.70 per km.

How short-notice can I book an FPV pilot?

Often for the following week. Permits are what decides it: on race tracks and indoors we clear the flight with the operator or owner, in restricted geographical zones with the authority. The earlier you share location and date, the safer the slot.

Does an FPV flight need a permit?

It depends on the location. On private ground and tracks the operator’s approval is usually enough; nature reserves, airport zones and crowds have their own rules. For geographical zones in Baden-Württemberg we hold a general permit from the Stuttgart regional authority. We handle the coordination.

Why is there a spotter?

The FPV pilot flies with goggles and only sees the camera image. Under EU drone rules such a flight needs an observer who keeps direct sight of the drone and the surroundings. For racing FPV and the cinelifter we bring the spotter; with the DJI Avata 2 a member of your crew takes the role after a short briefing.

Which camera and format do I get?

The DJI Avata 2 records in 4K – ideal for social media and quick clips. For fast chases a GoPro flies on the racing drone, for commercials and cinema the cinelifter carries a RED Komodo in 6K RAW. We hand over the raw files on the shoot day.

Do you fly outside Germany?

Yes. We are based in Sindelfingen near Stuttgart and fly across Germany and Europe – including Sweden, Finland, Austria and Spain.
