Drone Filming Immendingen: Mercedes DRIVE PILOT

For the Mercedes-Benz series “Einfach Technik”, VR-Copter flew the aerial shots on software and DRIVE PILOT – the system for highly automated driving in the S-Class – at the Immendingen testing and technology centre. Production by Castor Film.

Brief and execution

The “Einfach Technik” films explain vehicle technology in short, clear images. Our part: the S-Class on the proving ground from the air – showing car, track and surroundings so that the technology becomes easy to understand.

We flew on the closed proving ground in coordination with production and the site team. Proving grounds have their own rules: restricted zones, photo restrictions and prototypes that must not appear in the shot. These conditions are agreed before the shoot and followed on set.

Equipment and permits

DJI Inspire 2 with Zenmuse X7 in 6K – enough resolution for reframing in the edit and smooth moves over the test site.

Pilot and camera: Jochen Riehm. Flight operations with proof of insurance and in coordination with the proving ground operator.

FAQ

Can you film with a drone on a proving ground?

Yes, with the operator’s consent and according to its conditions – such as restricted zones, photo bans and rules for prototypes. VR-Copter agrees this in advance with production and the site.

How are prototypes protected during a drone shoot?

Flight paths and framing are agreed in advance and restricted zones are not overflown. Whatever must not be seen stays out of the shot – confidentiality is standard on automotive shoots.

What does a drone shoot on a proving ground cost?

A shoot day with a drone crew starts at €1,300 net, with Inspire 3 and cinema setup from €2,400 net, and as a combined drone, FPV and car-to-car package from €3,900 net – each including pilot, equipment, insurance and permit coordination.
