Drone Filming for SOKO Stuttgart: Aerials in the Vineyards with a Convertible
For the German ZDF crime series SOKO Stuttgart, VR-Copter flew the aerials of a scene in the vineyards near Stuttgart in July 2014: a white convertible on the narrow lanes between the vines – from above, in chase flights and in wide shots over the vineyard landscape.

Brief and execution
The vineyards around Stuttgart are a trademark of the region – and a typical backdrop of the series. The scene called for the convertible to be shown from the air: driving through the vines, set into the hillside, from a viewpoint you never get on the ground.
The lanes between the vineyards are narrow, and slopes and rows of vines limit the flight paths. So we flew pre-defined lines, coordinated with the director and production, in short takes between the ground scenes – chase flights right above the car and calm wide shots across the valley.
In the following years we flew regularly for SOKO Stuttgart, including at Max-Eyth-See, Killesberg and the Jahnstadion in Ludwigsburg.
Equipment and permits
Panasonic GH4 in 4K on a heavy-lift DJI Spreading Wings multicopter with gimbal – in 2014 the standard setup for cinematic aerials, long before compact cinema drones like the Inspire became common.
Flight operations with a take-off permit and the landowners’ consent. Today we fly in Baden-Württemberg under a general permit from the Stuttgart regional authority for geographic UAS zones.
