Drone Alps: Porsche Travel Experience

For the Porsche Travel Experience in the Alps, VR-Copter flew three drones: Inspire 2 with X7 in 6K for the big landscape shots, Mavic 2 Pro for quick changes and DJI FPV for dynamic runs close to the 911.

Brief and execution

The tour crosses 16 Alpine passes in five days – including the Timmelsjoch and the Stelvio – and runs through the Dolomites. Landscape and cars had to work together in the video: hairpins from above, the convoy in the bends and close shots that convey the driving experience.

On a tour you have to stay mobile: take-off spots must be found quickly, and light and weather change from pass to pass. That’s why three drones with different strengths were used.

Equipment and permits

DJI Inspire 2 with Zenmuse X7 (6K), DJI Mavic 2 Pro, DJI FPV, plus GoPro HERO9.

Pilot and camera: Jochen Riehm. Austria, Italy and Switzerland partly have their own rules and protected areas, which we check before the tour.

FAQ

Can you film with a drone in the Alps?

In principle yes, but national parks, protected areas and some passes are closed or require permits. Rules differ between Austria, Italy and Switzerland.

Why FPV in addition to the camera drone?

FPV adds speed and closeness: the drone follows the car through the hairpin. The camera drone delivers the calm wide shots – together they make a varied film.

What does a drone shoot on a multi-day tour cost?

A shoot day with a drone crew starts at €1,300 net, with Inspire 3 and cinema setup from €2,400 net, and as a combined drone, FPV and car-to-car package from €3,900 net – each including pilot, equipment, insurance and permit coordination.
